Kimberley Kay, Author and Illustrator of Ski A to Z – Illustrated Guide To Skiing will be speaking at the National Snow Show 2022 and has pledged support to Snow Camp charity at the show. Kim will also be exhibiting her snowsports art and signing first edition Ski A to Z books at The Snow Show 2022 and has pledged the profits of Ski A to Z books, sold in the first hour of each day of the show, to Snow Camp charity, for its work introducing young people to snowsports.

Kim explained, “I’m excited to be be speaking at the National Snow Show 2022 in October. I will also be exhibiting at the show – signing first editions of Ski A to Z and offering products which reflect the joy and emotion of snowsports. My work is intended to make snowsports more accessible by empowering people within information, so that they feel confident to try skiing. Ski A to Z can also help those already enjoying the sport to benefit from tips and advice gained over 40 years of skiing.”

Stephen Morgan, MD of The National Snow Show said, “We are delighted that Kim will be joining the lineup at The National Snow Show, sharing her top tips for beginners taking up skiing. Inspiring more people to take part in snowsports is a big part of what The National Snow Show is trying to do and Kim’s passion for sharing her love of the outdoors in a creative way will bring a great element to the programme. The show is shaping up to be an incredible day out for all the family with a fantastic speaker schedule planned across the two days, interactive features to keep everyone entertained and over 150 brands in attendance, the countdown is now well and truly on!”

Kim continued, “I’m keen to support the work of Snow Camp, conscious of the difference that snowsports have made in my family’s lives, I value their work helping youngsters, who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to try the sport.”

Dan Keeley, Community & Partnerships Manager of Snow Camp, said, “Our sincere thanks to Kim and her game-changing Ski A to Z book on behalf of all the Snow Camp team. Kim’s generous support to donate a percentage of profits to Snow Camp at this year’s National Snow Show will have a direct impact on the young people support; namely funding more young people to join our two-day beginner First Tracks programmes in our 20th year. Not to mention the book itself inspiring our young people and opening their eyes to the wider world of snowsports beyond their experiences on our core Snow Camp programme journey. Kim, thank you; thank you for joining us for the journey to turn more young lives around with the power of snowsports.”

Kim’s book Ski A to Z – An Illustrated Introduction To Skiing was published in early 2022. The book, for all ages, intends to demystify skiing and make it more accessible. By providing information, advice and tips the book intends to help boost the confidence of new and novice skiers, and help keen skiers level up their enjoyment of the sport. Kim’s ski illustrations are intended to resonate with avid skiers and attract new people to the sport by demonstrating the exhilaration and joy of skiing.

In full colour hardback format and ebook, Ski A to Z is available to buy now with all online book retailers and through bookshops. More information about the book can be found at www.skiatoz.com. To see Kim’s range of ski themed products head to the Inspire by Kim Online Shop.

New – Snowsport Themed Fabric and wallpaper Designs

I’m delighted that my Spoonflower ‘print on demand’ shop is now open with 18 ski and snowsports themed fabric and wallpaper designs.

I have lovingly created a range of mountain sports themed fabric and wallpaper designs, ideal for evoking alpine and chalet style environments and products.

The collection presently has 18 designs that can be printed on a great range of fabrics for use in home decor, products, accessories and clothing.

The designs are also available for wallpapers, including Spoonflower’s self-adhesive wallpapers.

The fabrics are ideal for alpine themed environments for chalets and ski houses; or for bringing a mountain theme into every day living.

Often the ski themed fabrics that I see are based nostaligic early days of skiing posters and ephemera, however with this collection I hope to provide modern designs for those who love skiing and snowsports.

I have mocked up how the fabrics and wallpapers could be used in a home environment, but the possibilities are endless.

Explore my Spoonflower shop here.

Spoonflower is a global marketplace connecting makers and consumers with artists worldwide. We’re revolutionizing the textile industry through our on-demand digital printing technology and eco-friendly, sustainable and scalable manufacturing processes.Spoonflower.

Ski Tracks and Trees cushion cover, with the Corduroy Snow wallpaper, accessorised with the Skiers From Above table lamp shade and Hot Choc Hot Tub art print.

I love mid-century teak furniture, particularly G-Plan so have brought this into the designs.

Yorkshire Life Feature

Yorkshire Life magazine feature. Aghast to see this double page spread in the April edition of the magazine.

The magazine is out now with questions and answers all about my life in Yorkshire. Thank you to my publisher Meyer and Meyer Sport for setting up this feature.

Thank you to Yorkshire Life magazine, great to be reminded of what was definitely our run of the season.

The article uses the picture Tim took with the frozen waterfall when we skied the Lagazuoi hidden valley in Italy in January.

To quote the Lagazuoi website,”The 8,5 km long Armentarola is without doubt the most famous slope in the Dolomites and one of the most beautiful ski runs in the world… an enchanting fairy-tale valley surrounded by craggy mountain faces and steep frozen waterfalls.“

In a charming end to the experience horse drawn sleighs await to pull skiers over the snow along the final, flatter stretch of the route.

Thanks to my husband Tim for all of his support while I’ve been working on Ski A to Z including his great photography.

Success! You're on the list.

Donut Decorating Illustrations.

⚠️Warning, you may experience a sugar rush whilst ‘consuming’ this article.

As a private project for ongoing skills development I took the challenge of illustrating an excerpt from a new children’s book by author Zoe Tucker. An assignment from Lilla Rogers’ Make Art That Sells Bootcamp.

This first piece was a warm up exercise. It was fun to paint these sweet treats and illustrate their characters and interrelationships.

The theme if the story excerpt was about a donut, named Coco Moloko, being decorated.

I sketched out the action of the narrative (above), whilst Coco Moloko (below) pondered what look to go for.

It was therapy to work in the assignment as I was feeling helpless at the unfathomable unfolding situation in Ukraine.

Below is my final double page spread for the assignment. I enjoyed deciding which aspects of the text to illustrate, and to bring the character to life. And adding lustre to any illustration is fun.

Text copyright Zoe Tucker – contact Zoe if interested in publishing. http://www.zoetucker.co.uk

I created the elements of the illustration in watercolours and then worked with these digitally.

The second aspect of the assignment, this part set by Riley Wilkinson, was to take the donut character forward, and design a toy concept. If you like your donuts warm you’ll probably enjoy this comforting microwaveable plush design.

I feel that the assignment moved my work forwards, which was my objective, so I’m pleased with the outcome.

Wishing everyone a Happy Pancake Day.

Ski A to Z Review in Ski+Board

In the latest edition of Ski+Board magazine (22 November 2021) Arnie Wilson reviewed Ski A to Z and Goodnight Chairlift in a fabulous double page spread with cover pictures and illustrations from the two books.

In the review Arnie said, “What makes this book – for me at least – are the flamboyant (and I use the word as a huge compliment) illustrations. Most people reading Ski+Board will have a pretty good grasp of skiing’s A to Z, but because this glossary of definitions and suggestions has a backdrop of hugely colourful and cheerful illustrations, it does wonders for any lingering lessons in the learning process about skiing safety, instruction and après-ski pleasures, even though in many ways it’s aimed at beginners.” Arnie Wilson Ski+Board November 2021

Ski+Board is the magazine of The Ski Club of Great Britain. Arnie Wilson was previously the ski correspondent for the Financial Times and later editor of Ski+Board.

Goodnight Chairlift is the new book from Libby Ludlow, illustrated by Nathan Jarvis.

Thanks Arnie. More about Arnie at this link.
